Who We Are

MIT-SACCO (Mukono Inspired Teachers’ SACCO) is a democratic, member-owned cooperative that supports teachers through savings, credit, and investment services. Founded in 2016 with just UGX 200,000 and six members, we now operate under the Uganda Cooperative Societies Act and proudly serve a growing network of educators. We are self-sustaining, member-funded, and committed to empowering each other financially.

Our Vision

To be a leading provider of quick financial services to members at affordable rates.

Core Values

Integrity, transparency, teamwork, democracy, accountability, and community care.

Our Mission

To promote a saving culture and access to affordable and reliable financial and developmental services.

Governance

We are guided by elected leaders: a 7-member Board of Directors, a 3-member Supervisory Board (SUPBO), and a Vetting Committee. These teams ensure our SACCO is secure, transparent, and well-managed.

How MIT-SACCO Works

At MIT-SACCO, everything we do is built on strong cooperative principles, smart saving practices, meaningful member ownership, and real financial benefits for all. We believe that together, we can achieve more — and we are proud to show you how.

.Savings

Saving is the foundation of our SACCO. Each member deposits at least UGX 50,000 monthly into a Compulsory Savings Account, attracting annual interest. Savings help you qualify for loans and secure your financial future. Consistent saving builds your credibility and strengthens our SACCO for everyone's benefit. It is your pay.

.Shares

Shares are your ownership in MIT-SACCO. Each share costs UGX 25,000 and is a lifetime investment that earns annual dividends. Holding shares guarantees access to all loan types, increases your borrowing capacity, and gives you a voice in SACCO decisions. The more shares you own, the stronger your financial position.

.SACCO Principles

At MIT-SACCO, we are guided by strong cooperative principles that build trust, unity, and empowerment among our members:
1. Voluntary and Open Membership: Everyone who qualifies can join and benefit freely, without discrimination.
2. Democratic Member Control: Members actively participate in decision-making and elect their leaders.
3. Member Economic Participation: Members contribute fairly to the SACCO’s capital and share its financial success.
4. Education, Training, and Information: We promote continuous learning to empower members and staff.
5. Autonomy and Independence: We operate independently while maintaining cooperation with other organizations.
6.Cooperation Among Cooperatives: We believe in working with other SACCOs and institutions to grow stronger.
7. Concern for Community: We invest in activities that support and uplift our wider community.

Our Services

At Mukono Inspired Teachers’ SACCO, we provide practical, reliable financial services tailored to empower teachers and their families. Our services are built on trust, accessibility, and the unique needs of educators.

Savings Accounts

A compulsory savings account where every member deposits a minimum of UGX 50,000 monthly. Savings earn interest annually, encouraging financial discipline and long-term growth. Members can withdraw once every three months, with restrictions to protect your future and support financial stability.

School Fees Account

The School Fees Account helps you plan and pay tuition easily for yourself, your children, or relatives. It offers short, medium, and long-term saving options, with interest rates of up to 10% per annum. Funds are paid directly to the school upon request.

Share Account

Buying shares makes you an owner of MIT-SACCO. Each share costs UGX 25,000 and earns annual dividends. Members must hold at least 25 shares within the first year, strengthening their voice in the SACCO and increasing their ability to qualify for higher loan amounts.

Target/Fixed Deposit Account

This account is perfect for achieving future goals such as retirement, projects, or investments. It offers flexible saving periods between 5 months and 5 years, with higher interest rates ranging from 6% to 12% per annum. Withdrawal restrictions help members stay focused on their financial plans.

Medical Account

Save for health emergencies with the Medical Account, designed to help you handle medical costs for yourself, your parents, or loved ones. It earns an attractive interest rate of 9.6% per annum (0.8% per month), providing peace of mind for unexpected health needs.

Social Welfare (Mutaasa) Account

Each member contributes UGX 60,000 per year to the Social Welfare Account. This fund supports members during moments of joy or sorrow, such as weddings, illness, or bereavement. It builds strong social ties and demonstrates our SACCO’s true community spirit.

Loans Account

MIT-SACCO offers accessible, affordable loans at a competitive interest rate of 17.04% per annum (1.42% monthly). Loans are secured by your savings, shares, or collateral like land titles. Loan amounts are based on a multiplier of three times your savings and shares.

Children’s Account

Secure your child’s future by saving today with the Children’s Account. Savings grow with an impressive 11% annual interest. Funds are accessible only when the child reaches 16 years of age, making it ideal for funding education, life opportunities, and important milestones.

Pensions Account

Plan for retirement or future emergencies with the Pensions Account. Save until you reach 40 years or retire early due to job loss. Funds earn attractive interest rates up to 12% per annum, helping members prepare for a stable, secure, and dignified future.

Financial Seminars

MIT-SACCO organizes financial education seminars to equip members with important skills in budgeting, saving, and investing. These sessions empower individuals to manage their money wisely, grow their wealth, and make informed decisions for their families and future goals.
